Alexander J. Thornton, 33, of Clay Dies in Car Crash on I-81

Oswego County, NY (September 23, 2025) – Alexander J. Thornton, 33, of Clay, died in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 south in the town of Richland Monday morning.

Thornton had been reported as a missing vulnerable adult on September 7, 2025, and was last seen on September 5. New York State Police were notified of a vehicle off the road at approximately 8:30 a.m. on 22nd September, 2025.

Investigators determined that a 2008 black BMW M6, operated by Thornton, went off the roadway into the median, struck a ditch, and continued into a wooded area where it collided with a tree. Thornton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, though no signs of foul play or impairment have been reported.
