New Rochelle, NY (September 10, 2025) – A driver was killed in a collision involving a box truck and a tractor-trailer on I-95 southbound at mile marker 6.1 in New Rochelle early Tuesday morning, 9th September, 2025. The crash occurred just after midnight.
According to authorities, a 2026 Peterbilt tractor-trailer was traveling southbound in the right lane and had slowed for an active construction zone. A 2016 Hino box truck then struck the rear of the slowed tractor-trailer.
The impact caused the box truck to become fully engulfed in flames, and the driver of the Hino was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the potential role of speed, traffic conditions, and visibility. The identity of the deceased driver has not yet been released.
