Herkimer, NY (October 4, 2025) – A motor vehicle crash involving a car and an Amish buggy occurred Thursday morning, 2nd October, 2025, on Cosby Manor Road in Herkimer County. The collision prompted a response from the New York State Police and local emergency crews.
According to authorities, Matthew L. Walker, 45, of Remsen, was driving a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta westbound at an unsafe speed when he attempted to pass the horse-drawn buggy. The impact ejected both occupants from the buggy.
Moses J. Swartzentruber, 40, of Poland, was unharmed, while Andy J. Troyer, 30, also of Poland, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wynn Hospital. The horse pulling the buggy was not injured.
Walker was not hurt in the crash but received multiple traffic citations, including driving without a license and unsafe passing.
The incident remains under investigation by the New York State Police.
