Champlain, NY (October 8, 2025) – Michael J. Mehaffy, 31, of Herkimer, NY, was arrested for driving while intoxicated after his car collided with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 87 northbound early Tuesday morning.
The crash occurred around 2:11 a.m. on 7th October, 2025, when Mehaffy, operating a gray 2022 Toyota, was following a blue 2023 CASCA tractor-trailer too closely and struck its rear. The tractor-trailer was operated by Jagjit Singh, 30, of Lasalle, QC.
Both drivers were interviewed at the scene and reported no injuries. Mehaffy exhibited signs of impairment and refused a chemical test. He was processed at SP Champlain and arraigned in Champlain Town Court before being released on his own recognizance.
State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
