The accident occurred around 5:30 a.m., prompting a swift response from the Watervliet Fire Department.
The motorcycle driver, a 41-year-old male, was pinned beneath the car after the crash, and both vehicles caught fire. The driver was treated for life-threatening injuries and burns over 60% of his body. He was transported to Albany Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
Police closed down the intersection for several hours to investigate the cause of the crash. The car involved was severely damaged, with one witness describing it as “barely even looking like a car” due to the fire’s intensity.
