Albany, NY (October 13, 2025) – A fatal wrong-way crash on I-787 northbound claimed one life early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on 12 October 2025, near Exit 2, when a vehicle traveling northbound collided head-on with another car.
The driver of the northbound vehicle, whose identity has not been released, sustained serious injuries and was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, who was traveling southbound on I-787, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment.
As a result of the collision, all northbound lanes of I-787 between the Thruway and Exit 3 are closed while investigators work on reconstructing the scene. The lanes are expected to reopen around noon.
In addition to this crash, another serious accident on the Thruway caused the Exit 6A off-ramp to I-787 southbound to close. State Police are working to gather more details on both incidents.
