Dauphin County, PA – One Injured After Car Plunges Down Embankment, Catches Fire on Route 283

Injured person found lying on berm after crash

Dauphin County, PA (October 28, 2025) – A serious crash on Route 283 westbound sent a vehicle careening down an embankment and into the woods Sunday night, leaving one person hospitalized, according to officials with the Londonderry Fire Company.

Emergency crews were alerted to the crash around 8:30 p.m. on 26th October, 2025, after receiving a Google crash notification pinpointing the incident near the 8.9-mile marker. Multiple 911 calls soon followed, reporting that a vehicle had left the roadway, crashed into the woods, and caught fire with an occupant trapped inside.

When firefighters and paramedics arrived, they found the victim lying on the berm of the highway while flames burned in the nearby wooded area. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, and the individual was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The extent of the victim’s injuries and the cause of the crash have not yet been determined. The vehicle was later removed from the woods by a tow company, officials said.

Single-Vehicle Crashes and Injury Claims in Pennsylvania

When a vehicle leaves the roadway and crashes, investigators look at possible causes such as speed, mechanical failure, road hazards, or impaired driving. Victims in these accidents may still be eligible for compensation through insurance claims or, in some cases, third-party liability if another driver or unsafe roadway conditions contributed to the crash.

A knowledgeable Pennsylvania auto accident attorney can help victims or their families understand their rights, obtain accident reconstruction evidence, and pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering.
