Harrisburg, PA (December 16, 2025) – A driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a multi-vehicle crash that left one car overturned and a busy intersection closed during the Tuesday morning commute.
The collision occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. near the intersection of Forster and Green streets. According to Harrisburg Bureau of Police Lieutenant Kyle Gautsch, five vehicles were involved in the wreck. Emergency responders arrived to find multiple people trapped and at least one vehicle flipped onto its side. One individual, identified as an occupant of the vehicle driven by the suspected impaired driver, was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The severity of their injuries has not been released.
Police confirmed that the driver of the initiating vehicle was arrested at the scene for suspicion of DUI. Forster Street remained closed for approximately 90 minutes while tow crews cleared the heavily damaged vehicles and debris. The investigation into the chain of events leading to the pile-up is ongoing.
Liability in Multi-Vehicle Pile-Ups and DUI Accidents in Pennsylvania
These incidents highlight the complexities of determining liability in multi-vehicle collisions, especially when criminal factors like driving under the influence are involved. In a pile-up involving five vehicles, determining fault requires a detailed reconstruction of the “first impact” to see which driver’s negligence initiated the secondary collisions. Under Pennsylvania’s modified comparative negligence rule, a victim can recover damages as long as they are not more than 50% at fault for the accident.
