Queens, NY (August 30, 2025) – A pedestrian was killed Saturday morning in a horrific crash on the Queensboro Bridge in Queens. The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. near York Avenue and East 72nd Street during the Labor Day weekend.
Police said the victim, 36-year-old James Mossetty of the Upper East Side, was crossing the street outside the crosswalk when a 2021 Toyota RAV4 SUV, driven by 71-year-old Abdul Hakim of Jackson Heights, struck him. Mossetty became lodged under the SUV and was dragged for approximately 13 blocks before being dislodged on the lower level of the bridge.
The pedestrian sustained severe head and body trauma and was rushed by EMS to New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver fled the scene but was later tracked down and arrested at approximately 8:00 p.m. on August 30. Hakim was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
Authorities have not released the speed of the vehicle, but the circumstances of the collision are under active review. Police continue to gather witness statements and review surveillance footage from the area.
Our thoughts are with the family of the victim, and we extend our condolences for this tragic loss.
