Preble, NY (August 31, 2025) – At approximately 8:32 a.m., officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash on Interstate 81 southbound near the town of Preble.
Officers determined that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to wet road conditions. The vehicle left the highway, collided with a tree, and came to rest on its side. Firefighters extricated the occupants. The driver was not injured, but a passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to University Hospital in Syracuse.
The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Tully Fire Department, Homer Fire Department, Preble Fire Department, TLC Ambulance, the New York State Police, and the New York State Department of Transportation.
