Penfield, NY (September 12, 2025) – A 69-year-old woman, Sharon Shearer of Penfield, was killed on Wednesday, 10th September, 2025, in a single-vehicle crash on Atlantic Avenue, between Five Mile Line and Baird roads.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Shearer’s vehicle was traveling eastbound shortly before 3:10 p.m. when it suddenly veered off the south side of the road at a curve. The car struck a support wire of a utility pole, sheared the pole, hit a boulder, and subsequently caught fire. Shearer, the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders secured the area as the vehicle was entangled in downed power lines, creating a hazard for nearby traffic. Investigators are actively working to determine the cause of the crash, including whether roadway conditions or other factors contributed.
Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted while authorities cleared the scene. No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved.
Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Sharon Shearer, and we extend our deepest condolences.
