Towanda, PA (December 18, 2025) – Commuters faced significant delays on Route 6 Thursday afternoon following a three-vehicle collision near the entrance to the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
The accident occurred at approximately 12:00 p.m. on the bridge, specifically near the stoplight intersection that connects Towanda and Wysox. The impact of the three-car wreck heavily slowed traffic approaching the bridge for roughly an hour as emergency responders worked to secure the area and clear the damaged vehicles.
Personnel from the Towanda and North Towanda fire departments, Guthrie EMS, and the Pennsylvania State Police arrived promptly at the scene. While Guthrie EMS provided medical standby, authorities have not yet confirmed the number of people injured or the severity of any trauma sustained in the pile-up. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the State Police.
Liability in Multi-Vehicle Bridge and Intersection Accidents in Pennsylvania
Accidents occurring near stoplights and on bridges often involve complex liability determinations, particularly when three or more vehicles are involved. In Pennsylvania, these incidents are frequently the result of “chain reaction” rear-end collisions or failure-to-yield violations at intersections. Under Pennsylvania’s modified comparative negligence rule, an injured party can recover damages as long as they are found to be 50% or less at fault for the accident.
Investigating the sequence of events at the stoplight is crucial, as dashcam footage or witness statements can determine if the primary cause was distracted driving, a mechanical failure, or a violation of traffic signals.
