Fleming, NY (August 25, 2025) – A 64-year-old truck driver from Jefferson County suffered a broken back, hip, and sternum after crashing into a ditch on Route 34 near Glanville Road in Fleming on Monday morning. The crash occurred around 11:14 a.m. while the driver was swerving to avoid a hazard.

The driver, who had an empty box trailer in tow after making a delivery to a salt mine in Lansing, collided with an earth embankment and was seriously injured. Deputies from the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the driver suffered significant injuries, including bruised organs.

Mercy Flight airlifted the injured trucker to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for immediate medical attention. The sheriff’s office did not release the name of the driver, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
