I have been hurt on the job recently and I was wondering how to go about Worker’s Compensation

Question:  Joe, I have been hurt on the job recently and I was wondering how to go about Worker’s Compensation.

Joe:  Worker’s Compensation is something that is available to everybody who is employed in New York State. It’s a system that has been in place for over 100 years.  You are entitled to collect Worker’s Compensation in lieu of lawsuits. The first and most important thing you need to do is report your injury, report the circumstances, also seek medical care to find out what is wrong with you and what future treatment you need. The Worker’s Compensation system can be confusing but is covers a certain portion of your pay. Two-thirds up to a maximum amount and it pays for related medical bills. People get into problems with not reporting accidents, not getting adequate medical care and so those are things you want to do right away because there are statute of limitation problems. So if you have any questions or concerns that is something you need to talk to a lawyer about.
