Richfield Springs, NY – 39-Year-Old Woman Killed After Car Submerged in Pond on Route 20

Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident in Richfield Springs

Richfield Springs, NY (November 4, 2025) – A 39-year-old woman from Richfield Springs was found dead after her vehicle became submerged in a pond near the intersection of U.S. Route 20 and Skinner Road early Tuesday morning.

According to New York State Police, troopers were dispatched around 9:30 a.m. after a passerby reported seeing part of a vehicle submerged in the pond. Upon arrival, authorities located the vehicle and discovered the deceased driver inside.

Investigators determined that the woman had been traveling on Cole Hill Road overnight in a Mitsubishi Mirage when she failed to stop at the stop sign at U.S. Route 20, went off the roadway, and drove into the pond.

The Underwater Recovery Team assisted at the scene, along with Richfield Fire/EMS and the Otsego County Coroner.
The investigation remains ongoing.
