Albany, NY – Three-Vehicle Crash at Third Street and Henry Johnson Boulevard Leaves Two Hospitalized

Three-Vehicle Crash at Third Street and Henry Johnson

Albany, NY (May 24, 2026) – A father and his 5-year-old child were taken to Albany Medical Center after a vehicle struck two other vehicles and the driver fled the scene late Sunday night at the intersection of Third Street and Henry Johnson Boulevard in Albany.

The crash occurred around 11:55 p.m. when one vehicle struck two other vehicles at the intersection, and the driver left before emergency units arrived. A father and his two children, a 5-year-old and an infant, were inside the fleeing vehicle. The 5-year-old was evaluated at Albany Medical Center for a non-life-threatening head injury, and the infant was reported uninjured.

The names of those involved have not been released, and the Albany Police Department has not disclosed what caused one vehicle to strike the other two. The investigation is ongoing.

Hit-and-Run Vehicle Crashes Across Upstate New York

Multi-vehicle crashes involving a fleeing driver are among the most serious traffic incidents in New York. Under New York Vehicle and Traffic Law § 600, leaving the scene of a crash involving injury is a misdemeanor or felony depending on the severity of the injuries, and a separate civil claim runs independently of any criminal proceeding. Victims of a hit-and-run can pursue compensation regardless of whether the fleeing driver is later identified.

When the responsible driver flees, injured parties can still recover through New York’s Motor Vehicle Accident Indemnification Corporation (MVAIC) and through their own uninsured motorist coverage. New York’s no-fault Personal Injury Protection provides up to $50,000 for medical expenses and lost wages, and victims with qualifying serious injuries may pursue pain and suffering claims beyond no-fault. New York allows three years to file a personal injury claim and two years for wrongful death, but evidence in hit-and-run cases, including traffic camera footage, surveillance video from nearby businesses, witness statements, and 911 audio, can be lost or overwritten within days if not formally preserved. An experienced Upstate New York car accident attorney can act quickly to identify the fleeing driver, secure that evidence, and protect every available source of recovery.
