Hopewell Township, PA – Bus Driver Hospitalized Following School Bus Crash

Bus Driver Hospitalized

Hopewell Township, PA (February 6, 2026) – A collision involving a school bus caused a road closure and sent one person to the hospital in York County on Thursday morning, February 5, 2026. The accident occurred at approximately 6:27 a.m. on Barrens Road (Route 24) near Little Road.

According to York County Emergency Management and the South Eastern School District, a passenger vehicle rear-ended a school bus operated by Krapf Transportation. The force of the impact caused a portion of the passenger vehicle to become wedged underneath the rear of the bus. At the time of the crash, the only occupants on the bus were the driver and her own children, who are not students within the district.

Emergency responders arrived to find the driver of the passenger car uninjured. The children on the bus were also unharmed; however, the bus driver was transported to a local hospital for evaluation “out of an abundance of caution.” Route 24 was closed between Walker and Fairfield roads for several hours as crews cleared the wreckage, but the roadway has since reopened to traffic.

Car Accident in Pennsylvania

Rear-end collisions involving commercial or school-owned vehicles often present unique legal questions regarding stopping distances and driver distraction. Under Pennsylvania law, the driver of the following vehicle is typically presumed to be at fault for failing to maintain a safe distance, but a full investigation is required to determine if mechanical issues or sudden stops contributed to the incident.

When a school bus is involved in an accident, establishing liability can be complex, as it may involve private transportation companies or public school districts. An experienced auto accident attorney in Pennsylvania serves as a dedicated advocate, handling the aggressive legal teams representing commercial insurers and ensuring that vital evidence—such as the bus’s onboard camera footage and maintenance records—is legally preserved. This oversight is critical to ensuring that the injured party is treated fairly and receives proper compensation for medical evaluations and any long-term trauma.

Pennsylvania law maintains strict timelines for those seeking a recovery. While the general statute of limitations for personal injury is two years, any claim involving a public school district or government entity requires a formal notice of claim to be filed within just six months. Taking action early is a necessary step to protect your rights and ensure that all available evidence is secured immediately after the crash.
