Corinth, NY (May 22, 2026) – Joan Meyer, 84, of Lake Luzerne, was killed Friday evening in a two-vehicle head-on crash when her 2018 Jeep Compass crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado.
The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on May 22 on State Route 9N near Antone Mountain Road in the town of Corinth. Investigators said Meyer’s Jeep crossed into the opposing lane and struck the Silverado traveling in the opposite direction. Meyer was transported to Saratoga Hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The driver of the Silverado was transported to Albany Medical Center with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Emergency units from multiple agencies assisted at the scene. According to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation remains ongoing as reconstruction efforts continue.
Wrongful Death Claims Following Fatal Head-On Crashes in New York
Head-on collisions are among the most devastating crashes on New York’s roads. When a vehicle crosses into oncoming traffic, the combined force of both vehicles meeting at speed leaves occupants with little chance to avoid serious or fatal injury. Families left behind, and survivors trying to heal, are forced to navigate grief and medical bills at the same time, and the legal process can feel impossible to face alone.
Under New York law, surviving family members may pursue a wrongful death claim to recover funeral and burial expenses, lost future earnings, and the loss of their loved one’s care and support, while injured survivors can pursue personal injury claims for medical expenses, lost wages, and the pain and suffering that follows a crash like this. New York allows two years to file a wrongful death action and three years for personal injury claims, and the state follows a pure comparative negligence standard, so recovery is possible even when fault is shared. Critical evidence such as vehicle event data recorder (“black box”) data, inspection records, and surveillance or dashcam footage can be lost within days if not formally preserved, which is why connecting with an experienced Upstate New York wrongful death attorney as early as possible can make a real difference for your case and your peace of mind.
