North Amityville, NY (December 28, 2025) – A violent head-on collision on Schleigel Boulevard left two people injured, one seriously, on Sunday night. The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Columbus Boulevard.
According to the Suffolk County Police Department, 28-year-old Andre-Marcel Devieux was operating a 2020 Jeep Cherokee southbound on Schleigel Boulevard when his vehicle veered across the center line and entered the northbound lanes. The Jeep struck an oncoming 2016 Volkswagen head-on. The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as 34-year-old Henry Foster of Forest Hills, sustained serious injuries in the impact. A 28-year-old female passenger in Foster’s vehicle also suffered injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.
Emergency responders from the North Amityville Fire Department were required to extricate both Foster and his passenger from the heavily damaged Volkswagen. Both victims were transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for treatment. Devieux was not injured in the collision. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks as the Suffolk County Police First Squad continues its investigation into why the Jeep crossed into oncoming traffic.
Liability and Recovery in Cross-Over Lane Collisions on Long Island
Head-on collisions caused by a vehicle crossing a double yellow line involve clear issues of negligence and represent some of the most dangerous incidents on Long Island roadways. In New York, a driver who veers into oncoming traffic is generally held liable for the resulting damages unless a sudden, unforeseeable mechanical failure or medical emergency can be proven. For Henry Foster and his passenger, the official report documenting the Jeep’s movement into the northbound lane provides a strong foundation for a personal injury claim. Because the injuries are classified as “serious,” the victims are entitled to pursue compensation beyond New York’s standard No-Fault benefits to cover pain, suffering, and long-term rehabilitation.
