According to Pennsylvania State Police, a man was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a female passenger aboard when the crash occurred on Penn Street, also known as Route 26, at approximately 2:14 p.m. The motorcycle was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision, which also involved a BMW. All three individuals involved were taken to the hospital following the crash. The severity of their injuries has not been released by authorities.
The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing. Authorities have not released the names of any of the individuals involved or additional details about the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
Motorcycle Accident Liability and Speeding Claims in Pennsylvania
Crashes involving motorcycles and passenger vehicles on Pennsylvania roadways raise serious questions about liability, particularly when speed is identified as a contributing factor. Under Pennsylvania’s modified comparative negligence standard, an injured party may still recover compensation as long as they are found to be 50 percent or less at fault for the accident. This means that even if a motorcyclist or passenger is found to share some responsibility, they may still be entitled to damages for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
Pennsylvania law also provides for a two-year statute of limitations on personal injury claims, meaning those hurt in crashes like this one have a limited window to take legal action. Consulting a Pennsylvania motorcycle accident lawyer promptly after an accident can be critical to preserving evidence such as vehicle data, road conditions, and witness accounts before they are lost. When a passenger is injured, separate claims against one or both drivers may also be available depending on the circumstances.
