Brutus, NY (August 9, 2025) – A deadly crash involving a tractor-trailer occurred Saturday afternoon on I-90 eastbound in Brutus, leaving one person dead and two others injured. The incident occurred at approximately 4:57 p.m. when a tractor-trailer driven by 50-year-old Mark Shidler of Applecreek, Ohio, veered from the westbound passing lane, crossed the median and guiderail, and collided with a 2022 Honda traveling eastbound.
The Honda, driven by a 24-year-old man with a 22-year-old passenger, both from Syracuse, was struck by the tractor-trailer. The force of the collision caused the Honda to roll several times before coming to a stop, trapping the passengers inside. One passenger was airlifted to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse with serious injuries and remains in stable but critical condition. The second passenger was transported by ambulance and has since been released from the hospital.
The tractor-trailer driver, Mark Shidler, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
