Penfield, NY – Two People Hospitalized After Three-Vehicle Crash at Plank and Five Mile Line Roads

Two People Hospitalized After Three-Vehicle Crash

Penfield, NY (July 14, 2026) – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that three people were hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Plank Road and Five Mile Line Road in Penfield on the morning of July 14, 2026.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene at 11:27 a.m. following reports of a crash with injuries, according to Sheriff’s Deputy David Marcucci. A westbound SUV failed to stop at a red light and struck a southbound SUV before colliding with an eastbound tow truck that was stopped in traffic.

The driver and a passenger in the southbound SUV were both taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the westbound SUV was also hospitalized, sustaining a serious lower leg injury. The tow truck operator was not hurt. Marcucci said drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash. The two damaged SUVs were towed from the intersection, while the tow truck was able to be driven away. Plank Road was closed between Hatch and State roads following the collision but has since reopened. No further information has been released.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

When a driver runs a red light and sends multiple people to the hospital, those passengers deserve to know what their options are before the other side starts making decisions for them.

Car Accidents in Upstate New York

A crash caused by a driver who ignores a red light typically establishes clear liability. Even so, injured occupants of the other vehicle have to act deliberately to protect a claim. Evidence disappears fast. Witnesses become harder to reach. Insurance companies begin building their own account of what happened within hours.

  • See a doctor today, even if your injuries feel manageable right now. Adrenaline and shock can mask significant pain in the hours after a crash, and a same-day medical visit creates a record that directly connects your injuries to the collision before any dispute can take hold.
  • Do not give a recorded statement to the other driver’s insurance company before speaking with an attorney. Adjusters work to limit payouts, and an offhand comment about how you are feeling can be used to reduce your claim later.
  • Preserve what you can from the scene. Photos of both vehicles, the intersection, and visible skid marks help reconstruct what happened. Intersection camera footage from Plank and Five Mile Line roads may exist, and it can be overwritten or lost if it is not requested quickly.
  • Do not accept a settlement offer before consulting an attorney. Initial offers from insurers almost always fall below what a claim is actually worth. Once you sign, your ability to pursue the remainder is gone.

New York follows a pure comparative fault standard. Even if the other driver’s insurer argues that you share some portion of responsibility, you can still recover compensation. Your recovery is reduced by your percentage of fault, but it is not eliminated.

Under New York law, injured parties generally have three years from the date of a crash to file a personal injury claim (CPLR § 214). This crash occurred on July 14, 2026, placing that deadline at July 14, 2029. Starting early gives your attorney the best chance to gather and preserve evidence while it still exists.

Recovering from crash injuries while managing insurance calls and medical paperwork is a difficult combination. The legal side of what comes next should not be something you have to work through alone.

The Upstate New York car accident attorneys at Stanley Law have handled multi-vehicle crashes across Monroe County and the surrounding region for decades. When fault points clearly to a driver who ran a red light, insurers often move quickly with low settlement offers, hoping to close the claim before you know what it is worth. We know how that approach works and how to counter it.

Intersection camera footage and the at-fault driver’s insurance and driving history are two of the first things worth securing. Both can become inaccessible in the days after a crash, and getting them early can significantly affect what your case is worth.

There is no cost to get started, and no fee at all unless we recover for you.
