Oneida County, NY – Quinntin Walker Killed, Two Hospitalized After Wrong-Way Crash on I-90 Thruway

fatal collision on the Thruway in Oneida County

Oneida County, NY (November 7, 2025) – State Police are investigating a fatal wrong-way collision on the New York State Thruway (I-90) early Friday morning that left one man dead and two others critically injured.

Authorities say the crash happened around 2:25 a.m. when troopers from State Police Troop T began following a 2018 Jeep traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-90 for approximately 12 miles. Despite attempts to stop the driver, the Jeep operated by 35-year-old Quinntin Walker of Ithaca, New York, collided head-on with a 2018 Ford pickup truck near Exit 32.

Walker was pronounced dead at the scene, according to investigators. The driver of the Ford, 47-year-old Mark Jean of Fulton, New York, and his passenger, 46-year-old Nicholas Malone of Syracuse, were airlifted to Upstate University Hospital. Police later confirmed that Jean is in a medically induced coma, while Malone is conscious but remains in critical condition.

The westbound lanes of I-90 were closed for several hours as State Police Troop T and Troop D BCI conducted an accident reconstruction and investigation. A traffic diversion was established at Exit 32 during the cleanup and recovery operation.

Authorities have not yet determined what caused Walker to drive the wrong way. The investigation remains ongoing.

Understanding Liability in Wrong-Way Collisions

Wrong-way crashes are among the most severe types of highway accidents, often resulting in catastrophic or fatal injuries. In these cases, liability typically falls on the wrong-way driver, though investigations also consider whether roadway signage, lighting, or impairment played a role. Victims and their families may have the right to pursue personal injury or wrongful death claims for medical costs, lost wages, and emotional suffering.

An experienced New York wrong-way accident attorney can help collect evidence, work with law enforcement reports, and ensure victims receive full and fair compensation.
