Rochester, NY – 42-Year-Old Pedestrian Among Three Injured After Amazon Driver Speeds In Wrong-Way

42-Year-Old Pedestrian Injured

Rochester, NY (May 3, 2026) – Three people were injured across a series of crashes in Rochester on Sunday afternoon after an Amazon delivery driver struck multiple vehicles and a pedestrian before fleeing the scene on foot. Among those hurt were a 23-year-old Chili resident who was hospitalized with minor injuries after her Nissan Rogue was struck at Dr. Samuel McCree Way and Epworth Street, and a 42-year-old man who sustained minor injuries after being hit on foot on Tacoma Street and was also transported to a local hospital. A 23-year-old Rochester resident, a passenger in the Nissan, also suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.

According to the Rochester Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 12:40 p.m. to the intersection of Dr. Samuel McCree Way and Epworth Street after receiving reports of a collision between an Amazon delivery van and a Nissan Rogue. Police determined that the Amazon driver caused the crash by speeding and traveling the wrong way down a one-way street. The driver fled the scene before officers arrived.

The investigation remains ongoing. No arrests or charges have been publicly announced at this time.

Commercial Vehicle Crash Liability Under New York Law

When a commercial delivery driver causes a crash on the job, liability can extend to the employer, in this case, Amazon or its contracted delivery partner, under the doctrine of respondeat superior. The conduct alleged here, speeding, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, striking multiple victims, and fleeing the scene, further supports claims of reckless conduct beyond ordinary negligence.

Because the driver fled, injured victims may also have recourse through their own uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. Under New York’s No-Fault system, injured parties are first entitled to up to $50,000 in Personal Injury Protection benefits for medical expenses and lost wages. Those whose injuries meet the serious injury threshold under New York Insurance Law § 5102(d) may pursue additional compensation for pain and suffering. New York’s pure comparative negligence rule also means victims can still recover even if they share some degree of fault.

Evidence in cases like surveillance footage, vehicle data, and witness accounts can disappear quickly. Consulting an experienced Rochester car accident attorney as soon as possible can help protect your rights and preserve critical evidence.
