The driver of the Dodge Ram, 30-year-old Nathaniel R. Blakely of Williamson, was treated by emergency responders and released at the scene. State Route 14A was closed for several hours while the NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the scene.
Car Accident in New York
Head-on collisions caused by lane crossovers are among the most dangerous accidents on two-lane highways like Route 14A. Under New York law, victims and their families have the right to pursue compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, and the profound loss of financial and emotional support. Because New York is a “pure comparative negligence” state, recovery is possible even if multiple factors contributed to the crash.
In accidents involving multiple passengers and serious injuries, navigating insurance claims is exceptionally complex. A New York auto accident attorney serves as a dedicated advocate, ensuring that the No-Fault insurance benefits—which cover immediate medical bills and lost wages—are filed correctly. Furthermore, legal representation is vital for investigating why the vehicle left its lane, whether due to driver distraction, a mechanical defect in the vehicle, or hazardous road conditions.
New York maintains very strict legal deadlines. While the statute of limitations for wrongful death is two years, the deadline to file for mandatory No-Fault benefits is typically only 30 days from the date of the accident. If a government entity is found liable due to poor road design or maintenance, a formal “Notice of Claim” must be filed within 90 days. Prompt action is necessary to preserve evidence and protect your family’s future.
