Teen Brothers Seriously Injured in Head-On Crash

Deer Park, NY (January 4, 2026) – Two teenage brothers are fighting for their lives following a serious two-car collision just outside the Deer Park Shopping Center on Sunday morning. The accident occurred at approximately 10:40 a.m. on January 4, 2026, on Deer Park Avenue.

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, a 19-year-old Deer Park resident was operating a vehicle northbound on Deer Park Avenue with his 18-year-old brother as a passenger. For reasons currently under investigation, the 19-year-old lost control of the car, causing it to cross over the center line and into the southbound lanes. The teens’ car was then struck by a southbound 2022 Dodge Ram pickup truck operated by a 49-year-old man.

Emergency responders arrived quickly to find both brothers with life-threatening injuries. They were transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition, where they remain under medical care. The driver of the Dodge Ram was not injured and remained at the scene to cooperate with detectives. First Squad detectives and the Crime Scene Section processed the area, and both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

Liability and Insurance Recovery in Cross-Over Collisions

Head-on and cross-over collisions on busy thoroughfares like Deer Park Avenue often involve complex questions regarding vehicle control and external factors. In New York, while the driver who crosses into oncoming traffic is typically considered at fault, a thorough investigation must determine if mechanical failure, roadway defects, or the actions of another motorist contributed to the loss of control. Under New York’s pure comparative negligence standard, even if a driver is partially at fault, passengers—such as the 18-year-old brother in this case—generally have a strong legal standing to recover damages for their injuries from all available insurance policies.
