Amherst, NY - 59-Year-Old Cheektowaga Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Crash With SUV

Amherst, NY (July 31, 2026) – A 59-year-old Cheektowaga man is recovering from serious injuries after the motorcycle he was riding collided with an SUV at the intersection of Main Street and Brompton Road, the Amherst Police Department said.

Officers responded to the intersection around 9 p.m. on the night of July 31, when a black Honda motorcycle collided with a 2026 black Toyota RAV4, according to police. The motorcycle was being driven by the 59-year-old Cheektowaga man. The RAV4 was being driven by a 60-year-old Amherst man.

The motorcyclist was ejected in the crash and sustained serious chest injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center. None of the SUV’s three occupants reported injuries, police said.

The crash remains under investigation. The Amherst Police Department is asking anyone with information, including dash camera or security video footage, to come forward.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

A crash serious enough to eject a rider from his motorcycle can turn one Friday night into months of hospital bills, missed paychecks, and unanswered questions about what happens next.

Motorcycle Accidents in Buffalo, New York

Intersection crashes between motorcycles and larger vehicles often leave the rider more seriously hurt, even while fault is still being sorted out.

  • Investigators typically look at which vehicle had the right of way, the timing of the traffic signal, and each driver’s speed and position before impact
  • A police report alone rarely tells the whole story, so witness statements, intersection camera footage, and the vehicles’ own data can matter
  • Riders are sometimes blamed by insurers before all the facts are in, even when another driver failed to yield or misjudged a turn
  • New York follows pure comparative negligence, so a rider can still recover damages even if found partly at fault, reduced by his share of responsibility

Under New York law, injury claims like this one generally must be filed within three years of the crash, or by July 31, 2029 (CPLR § 214).
