Pedestrian Injured In Coney Island Car Accident

Brooklyn, New York (November 26, 2025) – An 89-year-old pedestrian has tragically died in a Coney Island car accident near the intersection of West 22nd Street and Neptune Avenue. The crash happened around 12:30 PM on Wednesday.

New York City officials report that the driver allegedly went onto the sidewalk for undetermined reasons and hit three women.

A 75-year-old woman and a 43-year-old woman were both taken to the hospital to receive treatment for their injuries. Sadly, the 89-year-old woman died due to her injuries.

A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing by law enforcement.

Understanding Wrongful Death and Sidewalk Liability in New York

Accidents where a vehicle leaves the roadway and strikes pedestrians on a sidewalk suggest driver negligence. In New York, drivers have a duty to operate their vehicles safely and under control. If negligence is established, the driver may face liability for the fatality and the serious injuries sustained by the other victims.

For the family of the deceased, New York law permits the personal representative of the estate to file a wrongful death claim. This action seeks compensation for financial losses suffered by the surviving relatives, including funeral expenses and the loss of support and parental guidance the deceased provided. The statute of limitations for a wrongful death claim in New York is typically two years from the date of death.

The two injured victims also maintain the right to file separate personal injury claims against the responsible driver. Because New York is a comparative negligence state, a victim can still recover compensation even if they were found partially at fault, although their award would be reduced by that percentage.
