Guilderland, NY – Four Injured in Wrong-Way Crash; Owen Abraham, 30, Charged with DWI

Wrong-way Thruway driver charged with DWI

Guilderland, NY (November 14, 2025) – Four people were hurt in a violent wrong-way collision on the NYS Thruway early Friday morning after Owen J. Abraham, 30, of Schenectady, entered the Exit 25 ramp traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes, according to New York State Police.

Troopers responded around 4:12 a.m. after Abraham’s 2022 Honda Pilot collided head-on with a 2014 BMW SUV exiting the ramp in the correct direction. Both vehicles sustained extensive front-end damage.

Abraham suffered lacerations to his left leg and was taken to Ellis Hospital before being transferred to Albany Medical Center.

The three occupants of the BMW were also transported to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say Abraham showed signs of intoxication, failed field sobriety tests, and blew a positive preliminary breath test. He was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated at the scene.

The right lane of the ramp remained closed for several hours for investigation and recovery operations.

New York State Police noted an extensive list of charges issued to Abraham, including:

  • Reckless Driving
  • Driving Wrong Direction on One-Way Road
  • Moved from Lane Unsafely
  • Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device
  • Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent
  • Improper Entrance to Controlled Highway
  • Conduct Interfering with Safe Traffic Flow
  • and multiple other traffic violations.

Authorities urged motorists to use the STOP-DWI “Have a Plan” app to arrange safe transportation when consuming alcohol.
