Gorham, NY (June 25, 2026) – Ontario County sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on County Road 11 near Long Point Road in the town of Gorham on the evening of June 25, 2026, that left a motorcyclist seriously injured.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, another driver failed to yield the right of way to the motorcyclist, a 62-year-old man from Middlesex. The collision sent the rider to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where he arrived by medical helicopter. He is currently in stable condition, deputies say.
The other driver was ticketed. The sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation into the crash.
A crash that puts a rider in a helicopter and sends him to a trauma hospital changes everything for that person and everyone close to him. Knowing who is responsible and what options exist can help a family make the decisions that protect their future.
Motorcycle Accidents on New York Highways
When another driver’s failure to yield causes a motorcycle crash, the injured rider typically has a clear path to a personal injury claim. Ontario County roads have the same legal protections as any other road in New York.
- Who may be liable: the driver who failed to yield the right of way, as established by the responding agency and any citations issued
- What investigators examine: traffic signals or signage at the intersection, skid marks and road evidence, witness statements, dashcam or road camera footage, and the responding deputy’s crash report
- Comparative negligence: New York follows a pure comparative fault rule, which means a motorcyclist can recover compensation even if an insurer argues partial fault. The other driver’s traffic citation is a significant piece of evidence
- Seek medical evaluation promptly, even if emergency treatment has already been provided. Some injuries — especially spinal and neurological ones — do not fully present in the first 24 to 48 hours
- Do not give recorded statements to the other driver’s insurance company before consulting an attorney
- Do not accept any settlement offer before the full extent of injuries is known
Under New York law (CPLR § 214), you generally have three years from the date of injury to file a personal injury claim. For a crash that occurred on June 25, 2026, that deadline falls on June 25, 2029. While that may sound distant, evidence from crash scenes disappears quickly, and early legal action protects the rider’s claim.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
