Germantown, PA – Two Teens Killed in High-Speed Crash on West Godfrey Ave

Two Teens Killed in High-Speed Crash

Germantown, PA (March 10, 2026) — A high-speed collision in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood claimed the lives of two young men and left three others injured Monday night. The multi-vehicle crash occurred around 8:00 p.m. on the 2000 block of West Godfrey Avenue at the intersection of North 20th Street.

According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, a Nissan carrying four young men was traveling westbound on Godfrey Avenue at a “very high rate of speed” when it struck a Honda driven by a 72-year-old woman. The force of the impact caused the Nissan to spin out of control, eventually slamming into a parked box truck nearly a block away.

First responders arrived to find three occupants of the Nissan lying in the roadway, having been ejected upon impact. A 17-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene. A 19-year-old male was rushed to Jefferson Einstein Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. A 16-year-old passenger remains in critical condition. The driver of the Nissan, who had to be cut from the wreckage by the Philadelphia Fire Department, is also listed in critical condition.

The 72-year-old driver of the Honda was hospitalized in stable condition and is expected to survive. During the investigation, police discovered a semi-automatic firearm, broken into several pieces, along with live rounds scattered across the scene. Investigators believe the weapon originated from the Nissan.

Multi-Vehicle Accident in Pennsylvania

This catastrophic event highlights the severe legal and financial ramifications of high-speed collisions and stop sign violations. In Pennsylvania, car accidents are handled under a “Choice No-Fault” insurance system. While the “First Party Benefits” of each individual’s policy typically cover initial medical expenses, the presence of fatalities and “serious injuries” allows victims and their families to step outside the No-Fault system to pursue a wrongful death or personal injury lawsuit.

In cases involving excessive speed and the recovery of a firearm, the investigation becomes multifaceted. The Philadelphia Police Crash Investigation Unit will use evidence to determine the exact speed of the Nissan at the time of impact. Under Pennsylvania’s “Modified Comparative Negligence” rule, a victim or their estate can recover damages as long as they are not more than 50% at fault. However, if the 72-year-old driver of the Honda was struck by a vehicle running a stop sign at extreme speeds, the liability appears strongly skewed toward the Nissan operator.

For the families of the 17-year-old and 19-year-old victims, a Wrongful Death and Survival Action can provide compensation for funeral costs, medical bills, and the loss of future financial support and companionship. An experienced Pennsylvania multi-vehicle attorney helps ensure that all physical and digital evidence—including neighborhood surveillance footage and vehicle telemetry—is preserved before it can be lost or overwritten. Taking prompt action is a necessary step to ensuring that those responsible are held accountable and that grieving families are protected from the aggressive tactics of insurance adjusters.
