Joe Knows the Answer:  Sole custody is where one of the parents of a child or children has sole responsibility for their care.  In this case, the other parent's limited to

none, or prescribed visitation.

Joint custody is where all major decisions for the child or children are shared by both parents.  In this case however there still can be differences relating to visitation, vacations, etc.

Custody of course is one of those major oints of contention or can be in a divorce.
