Westmoreland, NY – Driver Killed in I-90 Tractor-Trailer Rear-End Crash

Driver Killed in I-90

Westmoreland, NY (March 6, 2026) — A pre-dawn collision involving two commercial tractor-trailers on the New York State Thruway resulted in the death of one driver and sent another to the hospital. New York State Police responded to the crash site on Interstate 90 westbound, near mile marker 243.7, at approximately 1:25 a.m. on Thursday.

According to investigators, a tractor-trailer operated by Ahmad Riyad Alomori, 42, of Paterson, NJ, was traveling in the right lane while hauling an empty car carrier for A1 Truck Lines. A second tractor-trailer, operated by a driver for DNT Express, struck the rear of Alomori’s car hauler. The force of the impact propelled both vehicles onto the right shoulder of the highway.

The male driver of the DNT Express tractor-trailer sustained fatal injuries and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. State Police are currently withholding his identity pending the notification of his next of kin. Mr. Alomori suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening and was transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica for medical evaluation.

Truck Accidents in New York

Rear-end collisions involving commercial vehicles are among the most dangerous incidents on New York highways due to the immense weight and momentum involved. In New York, these cases fall under the No-Fault insurance system for immediate medical benefits; however, because this incident involved a fatality, the family of the deceased driver has the legal right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Under the New York Estates, Powers and Trusts Law, survivors may seek compensation for funeral expenses, medical costs incurred prior to death, and the loss of financial support and companionship.

Determining liability in a commercial rear-end crash involves a rigorous technical investigation. Authorities will analyze the “black box” data (Event Data Recorders) from both trucks to determine speed, braking, and the use of cruise control at the time of impact. Investigators will also review the drivers’ electronic logging devices (ELDs) to ensure federal Hours of Service (HOS) regulations were being followed. Under New York’s “Pure Comparative Negligence” rule, even if a driver is found to be partially at fault, it does not bar their family from recovering damages, though the award would be reduced by their percentage of responsibility.

In the aftermath of a fatal truck crash, a NY tractor-trailer accident attorney acts as a dedicated advocate by securing vital evidence such as dashcam footage, witness statements, and the maintenance records of the commercial carriers. Because trucking companies and their insurers dispatch “rapid response teams” to crash sites immediately, it is a necessary step for victims’ families to secure professional legal representation to ensure their rights are protected and the true cause of the accident is accurately documented.
