Two E-Bike Riders Injured in Collision with Vehicle

South Scranton, PA (June 27, 2026) – Two e-bike riders were injured and transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center after their bikes collided with a passenger vehicle at the intersection of Pittston Avenue and Cherry Street, according to the Scranton Police Department.

Officers responded to the crash at approximately 5:29 p.m. on June 27, 2026. Both riders were taken by ambulance from the scene. The occupants of the passenger vehicle were not injured, police said.

According to police, the e-bike riders were traveling west on Cherry Street when they entered the intersection at Pittston Avenue. Witnesses told investigators that the riders traveled through a posted stop sign before the collision, police said. Both e-bikes were seized as part of the investigation. Detectives are also reviewing video evidence, including footage from a COLTS transit bus that reportedly witnessed the collision.

Police said the investigation remains active and charges could be filed after investigators complete their review of all available evidence.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

An intersection crash that leaves two people hospitalized and a full investigation underway puts all the evidence in play, and who preserves it first often matters.

E-Bike Accidents in Scranton, Pennsylvania

When an e-bike and a passenger vehicle collide at an intersection, the legal picture is not settled by a single witness statement or a preliminary police report. Pennsylvania law looks at the full record of contributing factors before fault is apportioned.

  • Seek medical care now, even without visible injuries. Concussions, internal injuries, and soft tissue damage from an e-bike crash can worsen before they produce obvious symptoms. A same-day medical record also documents the injury timeline, which matters in any future claim.
  • Do not give a recorded statement to an insurance company before speaking with an attorney. Insurers often move quickly after a crash to gather statements that support their position. What you say in the first days of an investigation can be used to reduce or deny your claim.
  • Preserve all available evidence. Photos of the scene, medical records, damage to all vehicles, and the names of any witnesses are all relevant. The COLTS transit bus footage referenced by police and any intersection camera footage is time-sensitive and may be overwritten or discarded within days.
  • Do not accept any settlement before the full investigation closes. A release signed before all evidence has been reviewed can extinguish further claims even if new facts surface later.

Pennsylvania follows a modified comparative negligence standard (42 Pa.C.S. § 7102). An injured person may still recover compensation even if they shared some responsibility for a crash, as long as their percentage of fault does not exceed 50 percent. Witness statements gathered at the scene are one piece of the picture. Vehicle speed, intersection sightlines, the passenger vehicle driver’s reaction, road conditions, and all available video footage are others. The full evidence often tells a different story than the first account.

A civil injury claim also runs on a separate track from any criminal or traffic enforcement action. An active police investigation with potential charges pending is not a reason to wait before consulting an attorney.

Under Pennsylvania law, injured people generally have two years from the date of the crash to file a personal injury claim (42 Pa.C.S. § 5524). For those hurt in this crash, that deadline falls on June 27, 2028. Acting well before that date keeps evidence available and options open.

Contact Our Northern Pennsylvania Car Accident Attorneys

Being injured in a crash while the police investigation is still open, and while an insurance company is already building its account of what happened, puts the injured riders at a real disadvantage without someone reviewing the same evidence on their behalf.

Stanley Law’s car accident attorneys serving Northern Pennsylvania handle vehicle collision cases across Lackawanna County and throughout the region. When active investigations involve video footage, witness statements, and physical evidence that is still being gathered, the window to preserve an independent record closes fast. Our team has represented injured people in intersection crashes, multi-vehicle collisions, and cases where comparative fault was the central issue in dispute.

The COLTS bus footage and any other intersection video cited by police will not remain accessible indefinitely. An attorney can move to preserve that record now, before it is discarded.
