Felix A. Amaro Soriano-Died After Striking Dump Trailer

Lloyd, NY (June 1, 2026) – A 22-year-old Poughkeepsie man died Monday night after his motorcycle struck the rear of a dump-style trailer on Route 299 in the Town of Lloyd, according to New York State Police.

Troopers responded to a report of a motorcycle accident on Route 299 and found that a 2002 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling eastbound when it struck the rear of a dump-style trailer traveling in the same direction. State Police said the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed before the collision. The rider was ejected from the motorcycle as a result of the crash.

First responders performed life-saving measures at the scene before Amaro Soriano was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. He later died from his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to State Police.

This is a developing story – details may change as the investigation continues.

Motorcycle Accidents on New York Highways

The sudden loss of a young person in a road crash forces families to face hard questions at the worst possible moment. If someone you love was killed or seriously injured in a motorcycle crash, understanding your legal rights – and acting quickly – can make the difference between a full recovery and a denied claim.

Here is what New York law provides after a fatal or serious motorcycle crash:

  • Wrongful death claims must generally be filed within two years of the date of death under New York Estates, Powers & Trusts Law § 5-4.1. Surviving family members may pursue compensation for lost financial support, funeral costs, and the loss of companionship.
  • Personal injury claims for survivors carry a three-year statute of limitations under CPLR § 214, but preserving evidence – skid marks, vehicle data, witness accounts, road conditions – must happen within days.
  • Rear-end collisions involving trailers can involve multiple liable parties: the trailer’s operator, the vehicle’s owner, and the commercial entity responsible for that vehicle if it was being used in the course of business. Each party may carry separate insurance coverage.
  • “High rate of speed” language in a police report does not end a claim. New York follows a pure comparative fault rule (CPLR § 1411), meaning a family can still recover compensation even when the victim shared some responsibility – the award is simply reduced by the percentage of fault assigned to the rider.
  • Commercial trailer liability often involves FMCSA regulations governing equipment condition, lighting, and visibility markings. If the trailer lacked proper rear reflectors or lighting, that becomes an independent liability issue regardless of the motorcycle’s speed.

Evidence disappears fast on high-speed corridor roads like Route 299. A trailer operator’s dashcam or electronic logging device, traffic camera footage, and the official crash reconstruction report can all be lost or become unavailable within days.
