The defamation case unfolding between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard

Let’s get right to it…

Much of America has now seen or heard that Johnny Depp has filed a defamation suit. It’s a special kind of civil case. And his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, has counterclaimed with her own defamation suit. You may also know, defamation claims for public figures are very difficult to prove. Because you have to show that it was false, that they did it with malice. These kinds of situations are typically dealt with in either family court or criminal court.

“I don’t know that people get a bad impression of the civil justice system, because it seems to me you have two people that have issues and that they have too much money and not enough brains. And they don’t really like each other, right? Sometimes that happens in lawsuit,.” says Joe.

Root of the Cause

Joe believes these are the kind of cases that people sometimes say are brought frivolously, but they’re actually not brought frivolously.

“They’re brought because people have an agenda, but that’s only a very small percentage. You have to have more money than brains. And what is the resolution in this defamation lawsuit, even if they both win or both lose?”

There’s another very interesting point… He already brought this claim in England and lost because they found that her allegations against him were more likely than not possible, but that result isn’t binding in that country… if it was, they wouldn’t be going through this whole process again.

We will keep our eyes on this case and the outcome will be interesting whichever way it goes.
